So you're in a band. (Or you know someone in a band.) Everyone in this town's in a band. (Or knows someone in a band.) But your band digs basketball. (Or ... etc.) You arrange your gigs so you're free to show up unannounced at a friend's house -- your friend that has cable -- whenever the Blazers just happen to be on. You wear a Brandon Roy T-shirt under your favorite tattered sweater. Sometimes you forget a chord change because you're worried about Greg Oden's knee.
On MySpace, you've even listed the (disconnected) Spanish Connection as your only influence. (Dirty Mittens, I'm looking at you.)
Actually, it was a complete coincidence I was looking at Dirty Mittens' page when Todd Bosma, the Blazers director of game operations called a few minutes ago.
The Blazers are looking for a few good bands to put their stamp on the team's theme song, and knock out a few other numbers that might be used in any number of ways.
Last year, Storm Large's version of "Ballroom Blitz"
was a semi-regular, especially loud addition to the pre-game ritual. They tried to re-work it as Blazers Blitz, "but that didn't really work out,"
Bosma said.
Best not to force such things.
Anyhow, if having your band provide the the lead-in to Blazers Broadcasts appeals to you, here's the link to all the information you'll need. And you can see what was done last year.
The team's planning a couple of live audition opportunities at Lola's Room in mid-August.
And, dear readers, if you've got a band you think should play the Blazers theme song, let's hear it.
