Portland Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby helped launch a program Tuesday that will raise money for children with cancer.
The Block Out Cancer program relies on the Blazers to play stellar defense on the court this season. Each time a Blazers player blocks a shot, Genentech will donate $25 to the Children's Cancer Association.
"So many kids and so many people in the world are suffering from cancer, I'm just happy I'm able to partner with CCA and Genentech and reach back," said Camby, who has been one of the NBA's top shot blockers for years.
As a team, the Blazers blocked 329 shots last season.
"Blocked shots and defense are right up my alley,"
Camby said. "So, I'm looking forward to getting a lot of blocks and hopefully getting a lot of money donated to cancer research."
The Children's Cancer Association will use the money for a variety of programs focused on helping children and their families who are fighting the disease.
